The Beauty Blender vs Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

If you are new to the beauty community you may be confused about the hype around putting your makeup on with a sponge. Until a few years ago when I thought of a makeup sponge I thought of one of those awful triangle sponges that ate your foundation.

Times have changed and now sponges are THE way to apply your foundation. I can tell you that I am a full on convert when it comes to this. Your foundation will never apply so smoothly or appear as natural as when you apply it with the right applicator.

In my eyes there are only two right choices when it comes to makeup sponges and they are the Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.

I have both and to be really honest with you I think they are both great products. Some people say the Real Techniques Sponge is a dupe for the Beauty Blender and I can see where they are coming from but I don't think they are exactly the same.

The Beauty Blender is slightly smaller and is a true egg shape. It is quite small and hard dry but once it's been wetted and the water rung out it's large and bouncy. The picture above is wet. Even wet I find the sponge very dense which is great as it prevents the sponge soaking up too much product. The sponge has a really soft texture that I can't describe but which is completely unique. I do find this sponge stains very easily.

It's around £12 and you can get it HERE.

This is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge which as you can see is also egg shaped but this has a flat bottom.

The different shape gives you options of how you want to apply your products and I know some people love the flat side under their eyes.

You also need to wet this sponge to make it soft and bouncy. This sponge isn't a soft or as dense as the Beauty Blender which means it does use more of your product. I also find it makes my foundation more sheer then when I use my Beauty Blender and ifs harder to build the coverage.

This sponge only costs around £5 and is available
HERE

I think both products are great but I reach for my Beauty Blender for my foundation and concealer and my Real Techniques Sponge for my cream blush and highlighter.

If your budget can't stretch to a Beauty Blender then the Real Techniques Sponge is a great budget option to give you a smiler results.

What's your thoughts?

Love
