Beauty Problems: Dry Skin
I'm going to save you the photos on this one guys as what we are talking about today isn't pretty by any means. We all have beauty problems, issues that prevent us from being able to do our makeup the way that we wish. In this series I'm going to talk about some of my beauty issues and what I am trying to do to combat them.
My biggest beauty problem is dry skin. I have a skin condition called psoriasis which causes me to have very dry flaky patches of skin all over my body that become very red and irritated. My psoriasis is a story for another day but it's important to understand when I'm talking about dry skin I'm talking about dry flaky, uneven skin texture. I'm not talking about dehydrated skin which is a different issue.
Dry skin causes me problems buying foundation that won't look cakey, I'm so dry that I can't use setting powder so I need to find foundations that can last all day without it. It can make my skin very texturised which makes it difficult to get a smooth finish. I'm particularly dry under my eyes so under eye concealer is a big problem for me.
To combat this I have a very robust moisturising and exfoliating routine. I only wash my face once a day, that must horrify some of you but if I wash morning and night my skin looses all its natural oils so I only wash my face at the end of the day to take off my makeup. I've also come to realise in makeup cream products are my friend, wherever possible I use a cream product and avoid powder in anything other than eyeshadow. That's not to say I don't or won't use powders just that they have to be brilliant for me to want to use them. I also use a silicone based primar to smooth my skin and lock in the moisture, I find this gives me the best finish on my skin.
What tips do you have to deal with dry skin?
Love
Kay
