NYX HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder Review

05:13
I think I have mentioned before that I don't really use powder as my skin is so dry that its normally a big no no for me. I have been watching Kathleen Lights on YouTube recently though and she has dry skin but still makes powder work for her so I thought I could give it a go. I struggle with my under eye area because its very dry so powder normally makes it look cakey but without powder as you can imagine my concealer doesn't always set how I would like. From YouTube it became clear I needed a loose powder but I really wasn't convinced it would work and so didn't want to spend a huge amount of money. That's when I spotted this in Boots.

It was only £8 which really doesn't seem much compared to many loose powders and gets quite good reviews online. As you can see it comes with a sifter so the powder isn't meant to explode everywhere when you open it. In my experience it still does so I just remember to hold it away from my clothes, I have to add here as well that I do store it flat so its not like the powder could have been messed around too much.

This powder disappears on the skin and leaves a really nice look, blending everything together and smoothing everything out almost like using a filter but in real life. I only really use this under my eyes and a little really does go a long way. It sets my concealer well and doesn't cause my under eye area to appear any more dry or cakey.

The big issue with this powder comes when you try and take a photo with flash. I was very surprised and a little embarrassed when I saw a photo of me on a night out with what looked like thick white powder all over my face. Now I don't think you need to see this on my face but I have tried to take a photo of my hand so you can see what I mean. This photo was taken in sunshine and the effect is even worse in low light, the picture was taken using flash.

This was a very small amount of powder added to my hand and completely invisible to the naked eye.

Now for me as someone who will only wear powder on special occasions when I am trying to make my make up last, the kind of situations where photographs might be taken, this isn't a feasible product for me to own. I don't wear this day to day and so am going to get very little use of of it. If you want a cheapish powder that you can wear when you wont be taking photos with flash then this may be a good powder for you, for me though it doesn't fit my needs.

If you are interested you can get it HERE.

Have you tried this powder? Do you have any affordable loose powder recommendations?

Love
